End of the world flu
Ok, some of you may have heard about the swine flu making it's rounds around the globe. A while back I posted about a sever botch up of flu vaccines that contained a live avian flu virus. Quick run down on that -
Here's the scary part -

Now, a couple of months later, we have a new problem -

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/27/swine.flu/index.html
When the virus passes from animal to human host, the virus mutates. This particular strain has a mutated gene sequence that has not been seen before. It has shown immunity to 2 anti-virus drugs, while 2 others have shown to have an effect on it. But as stated, the virus is capable of mutating when it transfers to a new host. Wonder how long before it is completely immune to everything.
The report on the "botched" bird flu vaccine said the "botch" contained H5N1. Supposedly, this Swine Flu is H1N1 strain. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks these 2 instances are related and we aren't / weren't told the whole story.
I'm patiently waiting for the panic to set in.
C'mon hardcell, where are you with your conspiracy theories when I'm interested in your opinion.
The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.
Here's the scary part -
The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany. One of the big fears is that people or animals co-infected with a seasonal flu virus of humans and a virulent avian flu virus like H5N1 will act as a mixing vessel. Flu viruses each have eight genetic packages within them and when co-infecting a cell they can mix and match (reassortment), thus producing new hybrid bird-human viruses. Baxter put both viruses in the same vial, presumably for use as a vaccine. Baxter is calling the mixture an "experimental virus material," whatever that is. All we know is that a nasty live virus cocktail of human and bird influenza virus was made (Baxter says accidentally). Exactly to whom it was given, if anyone, is not being publicly divulged. We have a news report from an Austrian paper dated February 11, a Wednesday, that tells of 19 people being seen as outpatients at a Vienna hospital the previous Monday (February 9) because of exposure to "bird flu virus." The article said no one was sick, there was no evidence of infection, and the females were prophylaxed with antivirals (presumably Tamiflu).

Now, a couple of months later, we have a new problem -
Seventy-three cases of swine flu have been confirmed worldwide, the World Health Organization said Monday.
Forty of those cases are in the United States, 26 in Mexico, six in Canada and one in Spain, a WHO representative said.
Later Monday, health officials in Scotland said two cases of swine flu had been confirmed there.
Hundreds more cases are suspected, especially in Mexico, where deaths thought to have been caused by the virus are rising, the country's health minister said.
Confirmed deaths from swine flu remained at 20, he said. The World Health Organization said Monday there have been 26 confirmed deaths.

Re: End of the world flu
What people need to realize is this strain is a H1N1. H1N1 is also the flu strain that mutated in 1918 that caused the Spanish Flu Pandemic, which was responsible for 50 million to 100 million deaths. Yes, I said million.
Flu pandemics occur about 3 times every 100 years. It's been about 40 years since the last pandemic, so we are a little over due. I'm not panicking...yet. But I am slightly concerned.

Re: End of the world flu
2 cases reported within 100 km of me. Im scared... not really. Honestly people tend to forget about the murder/cancer/aids/ epidemics your more likely to win the lottery or die in a car crash.
We need a plan in case of zombies.

But the mobile deceased should have equal rights protected under the constitution. They also have the right to take up arms beware split you might be bringing a gun to a already dead gun battle.

Re: End of the world flu
I'm more concerned that this swine flu could be used as a pretext to enforce mandatory national "vaccination" of the populace. They have been working hard on a way to get ppl to take "The Chip" and it seems to me that would be the easiest way to slip it to someone.
"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you!"
Now, where'd I put my tin-foil hat!?!

Re: End of the world flu
Fuck that. Nobody is sticking a needle in my arm unless I want them to. I definitely think there may be some kind of pretext going on here. I just find it a bit too coincidental that there was a huge "Ooops" concerning flu vaccines a couple of months ago and now this.Sgt. If this starts killing off the populace, I'll see you all in hell when I run out of CBRN filter canisters.
Still waiting for Hardcell to chime in with his thoughts.
**EDIT**
Wow, my state is screwed -
Re: End of the world flu
Today was my last day in the Army, but I am still officially in until the 21st, but now I can chime in on the consipiracy thoughts.
It's all man/military made:
Bird flu (avian), Swine, AIDS.... Maybe not all intentionally, but I think they are all man made viruses....
There have only been a handful of viruses in known history (black plague, chicken pox, polio, etc) and most have been around and are still around (with vacines). Black plague was like AIDS going airborne and killing you in days instead of years.
Here is how we have fucked ourselves..... TECHNOLOGY. Thanks to advances in technology, transportation is cheap and anyone/everone can roam the world. So, in the event something like that broke out again, it would spread worldwide. Only thing that saved mankind from the black plague was that it mainly stayed dormant in Europe/Asia. Traveling from contents wasnt even remotely pausable at that time.
This swine shit might get rediculous, but hopefully it goes away ASAP
